Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin was aboard a Coast Guard jet alongside other DHS officials when the plane made an emergency landing at an airport outside of Washington on Wednesday afternoon due to an engine failure midflight.
All 14 individuals aboard the C-37A jet landed safely at Ronald Reagan National Airport around 1:35 p.m., the airport — which is located in northern Virginia — confirmed in a statement.
“We just lost our right engine and would like to declare an emergency and immediate landing at DCA,” the pilot told the control towers, according to audio of the communication.
The Gulfstream jet was checked by the fire and rescue personnel at the airport and was taken off the runway. There were no disruptions to other flights, the statement said.
